About Me
I was born and raised in Coromandel NZ. I very much enjoy living in the mandel, where I grew up playing at the beach, in creeks, in the bush and going out in the boat fishing etc. From the age of 6-12, I went to Tara School (Rudolf Steiner based). Some of my fondest memories are of Tara School, nestled in the bush surrounded by mountains and creeks, it was an amazing adventure play ground for me and my school mates. For Form 2, I went to the Coromandel Area School where it was a lot more competitive and instead of 10 people in my class there where 40. I soon found my talents in sports, literally wining every sports award there was, from top soccer player to tennis champion. I was very strong at athletics, breaking many records especially at X Country running. I just seemed to have the necessary stamina for the job. I then managed too get a nasty case of the old groin strain, and it was then I took up cycling. My Dad was my mentor and biggest supporter. Mum’s organic home grown veges and matchless nutrition cooking helped heaps too in my making the grade . I had always been into bikes and when I think where I used to get to on my bike it still amazes me at such an early age. From the age of 13 I knew I wanted to become a professional cyclist. I lived in Coromandel up to the age of 15 and then moved to Hamilton to further my schooling and to develop my cycling career. I went to Hamilton Boys High School (2002-2003) and was given the award for Top Secondary Schools Sports person. Then I completed a 2 year certificate in Sport & Exercise Science at the Waikato Institute of Sport (2004-2005) and was awarded Top Overall Student. Whilst doing this course I found I had a passion for Anatomy & Physiology. Some time in the near future I will complete a Masters in Physiotherapy but right now though I am focusing on pursuing my dream of becoming a professional cyclist. Being able to ride my bike and make money sounds like loads of fun. It is now the year after completing my sports course and I’m back living in the mandel with mum, working at a landscaping job (a workout in itself) and training on the rugged Coromandel hills when I can fit it in.. I will be leaving to Belgium on the 11th of June 2006 and I will be living there for 3 months, whilst racing and training full time. I will return to NZ via Sydney so I can compete it a couple of big races.
